Impaired driving has become the leading cause of death and it's not right. Impaired driving could be smoking, drinking, or texting while driving. I think that texting while driving is the most common because technology has improved dramatically over the years. Everyone is more focused on their phones instead of paying attention on the road. When teaching young adults about
driving, include that phones, alcohol and drugs can distract you and can put you in a car wreck. Tell them to not drink, smoke, or text while driving. This will trigger their minds into reminding them to not look at their phones and maybe even start spreading the word out to as many people as they can. The role I can play is when I am driving someone somewhere I will have my full attention on the road and not on my phone. Even when I am alone I will stay off my phone so I don't hurt any other people that are nearby. I remember when I was behind a car that was driving so slow and I didn’t have a chance to pass them at all. I was running behind schedule as well. I then noticed that they were on their phone while driving. I was so mad but I couldn’t do anything about it and I didn't want to be a mean person. So I just kept at their pace and stayed behind them. Texting and driving can not only get you in car wrecks but it can also disrupt other people's day. Like when you are at a
traffic light and it's red. Most people look at their phones to pass time. Sometimes they lose track of time and start getting honked at by people behind them because they missed the light change. So you need to pay attention to your surroundings and not have all your focus on your phone. Drinking while
driving is also a high cause of deaths. Drinking while driving is not a good thing to do because you are not only putting yourself in harm's way, but also others. Personally I do not want to be responsible for someone’s death. I also don’t want to be responsible for my own death. So if you know you’re drunk and you can’t drive, don't get in a vehicle. I have seen a lot of videos where a group of teenagers go to a party and have a few drinks. One of them gets drunk, which is usually the driver in most cases, and they try to drive home. The driver refuses to switch spots and says he is not drunk so he drives. Well they get in a wreck and they all either die or get severely injured. This shaped my awareness by showing me that this is nothing to mess around with and I am responsible for my own actions. So if you're going to go out and drink with some friends. Make sure you have friends that are responsible and will get you home safe if you decide to drink a lot. Impaired driving means that you are putting yourself and others at risk. Whether you meant it or not, you have a choice. Your choice to be safe and reasonable of others or to take a life. Driving is a gist to us as humans. No one likes taking the bus and dealing with crowds in tight places. So having vehicles helps us get to places we need to go faster and smoother. Having drugs and alcohol in the car is making us make mistakes that we can’t make up. Having phones with us 24/7 and turning things that aren’t supposed to have too much technology in them, are tempting us to focus more on that than the road. Learning about these things makes me think before I act. I have friends that don't take it that seriously and I try to tell them that this is dangerous. I’m never in the vehicle when they do but I still worry about them. I can’t change their minds if they don't listen, so I just pray for them. I see so many people driving with their heads down and not paying attention to the road. Especially when truckers aren’t paying attention, that’s when I get a little scared. Truckers are the ones that need to be extra careful because they are bigger and have a slower stop time. So when I see truck drivers not being careful, it alerts me that I need to be extra cautious. I want to be as safe as I can so I prevent myself from getting into a crash. So impaired driving needs to be handled and taught more. To warn kids that cars are not toys and they can take your life if you let it. So be a better person and be smart. Before you hop into that driver seat, ask yourself if you should be driving. This will prevent you from making a mistake I know you’ll regret.
