1
AGE
15+
Georgia Learner’s Permit (Class CP)
Teens must be at least 15 years old to apply for a learner’s permit (Class CP)
Requirements:
Pass a vision screening and written knowledge test at the DDS
Drive only when supervised by a licensed adult (age 21+) in the front seat
2
AGE
16-17
Provisional License (Class D)
To apply for a provisional driver’s license (Class D), teens must:
Be at least 16 years old
Hold a learner’s permit for at least one year and one day
Complete a DDS-approved 30-hour Driver’s Ed course (like DMVEdu’s online course).
Complete 40 hours of supervised driving, including 6 hours at night
Restrictions for Class D drivers:
No driving between 12 AM and 5 AM
During the first 6 months, only immediate family members can be passengers
After 6 months, only one passenger under 21 who is not family is allowed
3
AGE
18+
Full Unrestricted License (Class C)
At 18, or after holding a provisional license for 12 months without violations, teens can apply for a full Class C driver’s license, lifting all restrictions.
