Instruction Permit
Teens can apply for an instruction permit after passing a vision screening and a written knowledge test.
Supervised Driving Requirement: Must complete 100 hours of supervised driving
OR 50 hours if enrolled in an approved Driver Education course.
Must hold the permit for at least 6 months before applying for a provisional license.
Supervising Driver: Must be accompanied by a licensed driver who is at least 21 years old and has held a license for at least 3 years.

Provisional License
Teens who have held a permit for 6 months, completed the driving requirements, and passed a driving test are eligible for a provisional license.
Night Driving Restriction: No driving between midnight and 5 a.m., except when traveling to/from work, school, or with a licensed adult over 25.
Passenger Restriction – First 6 Months: No passengers under 20 years old unless they are immediate family.
Passenger Restriction – Second 6 Months: No more than 3 passengers under 20, unless immediate family.
These restrictions are lifted after 12 months of clean driving or upon turning 18.

All GDL restrictions are lifted at age 18, or earlier if the teen has maintained a clean driving record for at least 12 months under the provisional license.
