Impaired driving has a literal definition which an easy google search defines it to be "operating a motor vehicle while your ability is compromised by alcohol, legal or illegal drugs, sleepiness, or other factors that affect your judgment, coordination, and reaction time". While I do agree this describes the term quite real I'd like to take a different perspective in how this can be perceived.
To me personally, impaired driving refers to a certain situation in which a person in a vehicle is in a state of where their body is inflicted with chemicals causing them to not
drive safely at all. These chemicals being consumed are drugs, alcohol and can be due to any other related issues affecting driving. One thing is for sure impaired driving is absolutely selfish because why would someone in their moral right consider taking in dangerous chemicals that already cause them enough harm towards their body but put their own life on the road at risk.
It's completely ignorant not to be aware of dangers being put through which is why I see them as selfish people who are risking their lives when there's no need too. I understand there may be circumstances where if the driver has an addiction but wouldn't it be common sense to not even let them drive the car themselves or at least have someone drive for them. Besides the fact that it's legal, most don't even care. They're immoral people who don't understand simple tasks like driving contain huge risks.
Even people who don't consume drugs should be feeling ashamed, obviously if you need to get places it's better off taking a long nice rest instead of sleeping when you aren’t aware of when the next stop light is flickering in front of you. Yet what's even worse, even completely normal people who aren't even near the collapse of exhaustion or have undergone some drugs or alcohol recklessly drive just for fun. They believe driving is just something easy to learn that they can do whatever they want on the road as long as they aren’t caught doing so because it's hard to accept but many people could care less about the
rules regarding driving.
Especially for those who are exhausted, fatigue is another factor connected towards that. There have just been immense amounts of accidents that could most likely be over the fact that the driver wasn’t completely awake reducing their reaction time. While one drives it is quite a survival skill if anything to be able to react quickly among your surroundings the same way you drive when you're on the road because anything is possible while driving just because you may feel tired doesn’t mean someone else along the road isn’t going through the exact same thing. Yet one of you is bound to eventually cause a million leading up to an accident.
Which is why society in general has contributed to the amount of traffic collisions occurring whether its amount the city streets to being on the free way. There has just been an increase in distractions that has made driving become something unsafe it has to be looked into. Now with the upbringing of social media. It has worsened far more than one could ever imagine. Everyone has once texted or called while driving which some may not believe are one of the main causes people get into car accidents, which is why so many cars clash together due to the fact we are set to immediately clicking that notification on our phone as soon as it pops up. Those few seconds could end your whole life. People need to start thinking about this and see the image.
Sadly enough this happened to an important figure among my community. My own principal passed away over a crash in the weekend. Although I'm not aware of the exact details I do know it was a car accident that wasn’t his fault but for the action of another driver who was impaired. This travesty brought some realization to me, driving isn’t something we shouldn’t just consider a daily task.
It's moving through the wild, it's having to be constantly aware of your surroundings because anything can go wrong. In this case my own principal was the victim. All over the decision of someone who didn’t care enough to follow the rules of driving. Their selfish decision of driving while not being a conscious state of mind, believing everything will go fine but it doesn’t. It will never be that case because they put at risk not only their own lives but others. My own principal could be standing till this day if it weren't for people like them who didn't take driving seriously. Ultimately it's up to society to enforce these guidelines to ensure people are. There should be no reason why we can't be able to follow these rules and hurt each other. For everyone's safety,
learn to drive safely and don't be ignorant.
