You killed somebody. You harmed, disabled, or injured someone. 

Their family, their mistakes, effort, passion, creativity, hope, dreams, and aspirations remain forever affected, with your image burned into their memories at every reminder. 

These are not actions that anybody could live with, knowing that they had taken away the chance of living from someone, the potential that they could live with. This burden would be there every day, every street, every corner, every choice when driving, until the day you are one with the earth. This burden will not ease; it will just get heavier as you think of the people whose lives you could change, the future that will never come to be, all because of one foolish choice in a single moment. One moment, one mistake, one choice can result in the burden of the life you could change. Every second that you spend driving represents a choice, the choice to honour the life that exists around you, the life that you could change irrevocably.

Driving is a responsibility we shouldn't take lightly. Tens of thousands of people die on the road each year from preventable accidents. Each number represents a life lost, a family forever affected, and moments, if not decades of life, erased in an instant. Every accident leaves a ripple of impact, affecting not only the person harmed but everyone connected to them, including friends, family, and even strangers who witness the consequences.

Every driver has a role to play in preventing these tragedies. We can commit to staying focused behind the wheel, following the rules, and simply never taking unnecessary risks. We have the voice to speak up when someone else is unsafe, put away our phones, and plan to avoid fatigue, treating every turn, stop, and lane change with the care it deserves. Every distraction that wanders the eyes from what's ahead of you is a risk of the unfortunate events no one expects, but every chance to be awake offers the possibility of saving, caring,  and respecting life beside you.
