Impaired driving is when a citizen behind the wheel is using any form of drugs such as smoking or drinking or a medication that comes with side effects that may cause someone to not have a clear mind while driving. Things like this may often be misunderstood due to people not knowing how they can effect them or their ability to drive. The most common impairment we face today would be texting and driving. This is the most common becuase people always feel like they have to be on there phones but don't understand how it can cause others to behave knowing that they are on there phones and not paying attention. These affect driving ability because your mind is not where it should be. When you are drinking your mind is not clear and drugs and medication or even just sad or crying thinking about something that hurt you can also be a big distraction to you while driving due to your focuses not being on the road or cars around you. This may lead to a crash. This could be with another car or a building, person or tree. While driving it is very important to have a clear head. I have heard story's in
driving school of people who would be on their phone while driving sending off text messages and hitting people because there eyes were not on the people who were crossing the road. I once say in a drive thru even a driver was on their phone and had paid for their meal already and the car behind it start honking their horn at them because they were holding up the line on their phone. There are story's of people even speeding while going far over the speed limit just for fun. This lead to the car steering under control and the cars breaks gave out and the car flipped over with 3 girls dead and 3 injured and the driver was arrested for killing those girls in the car with her because she was in the driver seat in control of the car. It is important to know what can happen if you car in control of the car and hurt or kill someone because you were not alert. Hearing these story's shape my awareness that there are and will be people on the road who don't follow the laws of driving. You will have people smoking and speeding and drinking and each of those are all illegal. It is dangerous so you have to keep your eyes open for people like this who may not be aware of what the laws are and seem to be a driver that can be dangerous to others on the road.
Driving education and
traffic school is important and can change peoples attitudes while driving because it will show them just how serious driving is and how is can be a life or death if you choose not to follow the road rules or traffic laws. You can either kill someone due to speeding or drug use or be killed by your actions while driving. With that said driving programs can be effective in the real-word situations if people take what they learn to the road. If what they learn can either show them or scare them into seeing how serious driving is. It will sure help you understand that some people will be on the road that can cause crashes and you have to be aware of who those people might be so you must stay alert even if those around you are not because that can save you and even them. Something that you can personally do to keep yourself and other safe while driving is being a good driver. A good driver would not do drugs or drive when they feel like they have other things on there mind. They know the laws and they follow them. A good driver even helps others when they see a problem that others around them may not see. That is called emergency lights. Stay aware of those around you and stay clam in a scary situation to avoid crashes or scaring others around you into crashes or swerving. If you stay calm and follow the laws of driving then you can keep yourself safest on the road even with others who may not be following the laws because you were paying attention and stay alert. To conclude the most important thing you can do while driving to keep yourself and others safe is to stay alert and pay attention.
